Alice Kahn Ladas has made a huge difference in women’s lives. She has been a pioneer helping women reclaim the right to their bodies through her many varied activities. She taught the first Lamaze course in educated childbirth in the United States in l960. Her doctoral dissertation, done with 1100 members of the La Leche League, and published in four peer-reviewed journals helped to restore breastfeeding in the United States. Her study, Women and Bioenergetic Analysis, done with her late husband Harold, was presented at a Conference of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality in l979, under the title “From Freud Through Hite All Partly Right and Partly Wrong”. At that Conference, she met her coauthors Drs Beverly Whipple and John Perry who were presenting their research about The G-Spot and Female Ejaculation. That meeting led to her idea for the NY Times best seller “The G Spot and Other Discoveries About Human Sexuality” which, among other things, synthesized the work of the Freudians and the Sex Researchers. The G-Spot book, which includes the study Women and Bioenergetic Analysis as an appendix, is now in 18 languages and 29 countries. It has sold over a million copies and recently been reissued in Chinese, Portuguese and English. Dr.Ladas served simultaneously on the Boards of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis in the ’60s. They held opposing views about women’s sexuality, so it is not accidental that her research led to a synthesis and put to rest the foolish argument which preoccupied so many professionals in the ’30s-70s, about whether clitoral or vaginal responsiveness is more important in the mature woman.
